Saudi Development Program enhances Yemen transport infrastructure

The Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen is implementing various projects to improve the transport and logistics sector across 16 Yemeni governorates. These initiatives aim to enhance infrastructure efficiency, facilitate the movement of people and goods, and support economic and commercial activities.

Key road projects include the expansion and rehabilitation of approximately 200 kilometers of strategic roads to improve traffic safety and connectivity between cities. A major component is the Al-Abr road project, which serves as a vital international link between Saudi Arabia and Yemen. The program has completed two phases totaling 90 kilometers and is currently working on a third 40-kilometer phase, bringing the total project length to 130 kilometers.

In the aviation sector, the program is rehabilitating Aden International Airport. Previous stages included work on the auxiliary runway, main passenger terminal, and cargo facilities. The third stage focuses on the main runway and the development of air navigation and communication systems. Other regional projects include road developments in Aden, Al-Mahrah, and Socotra, where stone paving is being used to improve mobility and manage floodwaters.
