Yemen road infrastructure rehabilitation projects
Overview
The Yemeni government and local authorities have expanded several road maintenance and rehabilitation projects across various regions.
In the Shabwah Governorate, the Ministry of Public Works and Highways has progressed with the rehabilitation of the Al-Abr – Ataq international road. Minister Hussein Awad al-Aqrabbi attended the signing of a contract for the fifth section of this highway, covering 16.96 kilometers. Funded and supervised by the Roads and Bridges Maintenance Fund, this project follows a previous contract for the sixth section, which spans 15.45 kilometers. Together, these efforts aim to rehabilitate a total of 32.41 kilometers of the international highway to improve traffic safety and the movement of goods.
In Aden, infrastructure initiatives are advancing in multiple districts. In Al-Buraiqeh, the rehabilitation of a street branching from the Kod Al-Nimr Corniche to the September 26 School has reached 70 percent technical completion. This project, funded by the local district authority and the Aden Refinery Company, involves excavation, leveling, and the installation of curbs and interlocking stone paving to alleviate congestion on Al-Douh street.
Further developments in Aden include the handover of the Ras Marbat road paving project site in the Al-Tawahi district to the Roads and Bridges Maintenance Fund. This project, costing approximately 225.8 million Yemeni riyals, is being implemented by Military Works after several years of being stalled. Additionally, maintenance has commenced on the West Coast road to repair cracks and potholes, a move intended to facilitate the transport of humanitarian aid and improve safety for commuters and ambulances.
