Savona launches Casa di Silvia accessible housing for ALS patients

The municipality of Savona inaugurated the “Casa di Silvia,” a fully accessible residence for people living with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and their families. Funded by the Italian ALS Association (Aisla) and donated by the late Silvia’s father, Pino Codispoti, the house offers adapted rooms, a wheelchair‑friendly bathroom, a equipped kitchen and necessary aids, allowing short stays for rest, medical visits or a break from daily challenges. The service is free for Aisla members.

During the opening, Savona welfare assessor Riccardo Viaggi said the project “gives continuity to what exists today while looking to the future” and praised the collaboration between local authorities and the association. The first guests, the Maggiani family, highlighted how the facility simplifies planning a seaside getaway on the inclusive “Lo Scaletto senza Scalini” beach.
