Religious guidance advises that women observing the Sawan Monday fast should not break the fast if their menstrual period begins, as menstruation is a natural process. However, they should avoid direct contact with the Shiva lingam, refrain from offering water ablution, and let another family member perform the rituals while they focus on meditation and chanting.

The 2026 Sawan Shivratri is scheduled for 11 August 2026 (Tuesday), with the main fasting and worship period on that day. Detailed auspicious timings for water ablution, prayers, and the four‑prahar worship are provided, extending into 12 August for the concluding rites. Devotees undertaking the Kanwar Yatra are expected to perform the rituals on this date.
