Sábado Solidário Food Drive Engages 25 Cities Across Rio Grande do Sul
A recent guide outlines how to plan and run effective food‑donation campaigns, emphasizing clear objectives, logistics, selection of non‑perishable items, and transparent communication to reach the widest possible number of beneficiaries.
In August, the Sábado Solidário campaign will put those principles into practice in Rio Grande do Sul. The initiative spans 25 cities, converting participating supermarkets into collection points on Saturday, 8 August, and continuing with additional events on 1 August in Torres and 15 August in the Vale do Sinos region and Santa Maria. Volunteers from local food banks will collect at least one kilogram of non‑perishable food per shopper, aiming to match or exceed the 35 tonnes (about 105 000 meals) gathered in the July edition. Logistics in Porto Alegre are coordinated by SETCERGS and CEPORTO, and eighteen food banks across the state will distribute the donations to roughly a thousand community organisations. Those unable to attend in person can contribute through the campaign website.
