Brazilian hunger relief and food donation campaigns

Overview

Various Brazilian initiatives are mobilizing to combat hunger through community and corporate partnerships. In August, the ‘Sábado Solidário’ campaign expanded across 25 cities in Rio Grande do Sul, utilizing supermarkets as collection points to support eighteen food banks and approximately one thousand community organizations. The campaign aimed to match or exceed the 35 tonnes of food collected in July.

Other efforts include the ‘Eu Vou Doar’ campaign, a partnership between the Rock in Rio festival and Ação da Cidadania, which has committed 500,000 meals with a broader goal of reaching 2 million meals. Additionally, the Banco de Alimentos da Região do Calçado (BARC) scheduled its 5th ‘Pizza do Bem’ drive-thru event for October to fund food distribution in the Novo Hamburgo, Campo Bom, Estância Velha, and Sapiranga regions.
