Sébastien Delogu detained after altercation with police in Marseille
Sébastien Delogu, a La France insoumise (LFI) deputy from Marseille, was placed in police custody on Thursday, August 28, following a heated altercation with three plainclothes officers. The incident occurred on Monday, August 24, when officers from the Service interdépartemental de sécurisation des transports en commun (SISTC) attempted to enter Delogu’s residential building to apprehend a suspect involved in a luxury watch theft.
The two parties have provided conflicting accounts. The officers filed a complaint for outrage against a public official, alleging that Delogu physically obstructed their entry and used insulting language. Conversely, Delogu filed a complaint for insults and physical violence, claiming the officers failed to identify themselves and subsequently pushed and insulted him. His lawyer, Yonès Taguelmint, denied allegations that the deputy used the phrase “La République, c’est moi” during the encounter.
Delogu was released from custody late Thursday night. He has been summoned to appear before the Marseille criminal court on November 13 to face charges of outrage against a public official. The investigation remains ongoing to determine the exact circumstances of the confrontation.
