Police altercation involving Sébastien Delogu

Overview

Sébastien Delogu, a La France insoumise deputy in Marseille, was detained on August 28 following a confrontation with plainclothes officers on August 24. The incident occurred when officers from the Service interdépartemental de sécurisation des transports en commun attempted to enter Delogu’s residential building to apprehend a suspect in a luxury watch theft.

The accounts of the encounter remain conflicting. Officers filed a complaint for “outrage against a public official,” alleging that Delogu used insulting language and physically obstructed their entry. Delogu filed a counter-complaint for insults and physical violence, asserting that the officers failed to identify themselves and subsequently pushed him. His lawyer denied allegations that the deputy claimed, “La République, c’est moi.”

Following his release from custody, Delogu has been summoned to appear before the Marseille criminal court on November 13, 2026, to face charges of “outrage to a person holding public authority.”
