Sébastien Delogu to face trial following police altercation in Marseille

French lawmaker Sébastien Delogu, a member of La France insoumise, is scheduled to appear in court on November 13, 2026, following an altercation with police in Marseille. Delogu was held in police custody for over eight hours after an incident on August 24 at his residence.

The dispute arose when plainclothes officers attempted to enter the building to apprehend a suspect. According to the officers, Delogu physically obstructed their entry and insulted them. Conversely, Delogu claims the individuals failed to sufficiently identify themselves as police officers, leading him to deny them access.

In response to the incident, the Marseille prosecutor's office initiated proceedings for “outrage to a person holding public authority.” Delogu has also filed a counter-complaint against unknown persons for insults and alleged physical violence by individuals claiming to be police officers. The court will determine the validity of these conflicting accounts.
