SBS expands financial service limits and debt relief in Peru

The Superintendencia de Banca, Seguros y AFP (SBS) has implemented new regulations to expand financial access and provide relief to debtors in Peru.

Under Resolution SBS N.° 2116-2026, the limits for Basic Operations Establishments (EOB) have been increased to facilitate transactions in rural or remote areas. Deposits and withdrawals related to credit operations, such as loan disbursements and payments, can now reach up to 6 UIT. Other non-credit operations remain capped at 2 UIT. Additionally, the daily cash limit held in EOB vaults may be exceptionally raised from 10 UIT to 30 UIT, provided establishments implement appropriate risk control measures.

Separately, the SBS has introduced temporary measures to assist individuals and businesses affected by the El Niño phenomenon. Financial institutions are authorized to modify contract conditions and payment schedules to accommodate temporary changes in income flows. These adjustments are intended to provide flexibility without classifying the changes as refinancings or negatively impacting the debtors' credit ratings, provided they meet specific criteria regarding risk classification and repayment history.
