Peru SBS financial regulatory updates
Overview
The Superintendencia de Banca, Seguros y AFP (SBS) in Peru has implemented several regulatory adjustments to the financial sector.
In late August 2026, the SBS introduced Resolution SBS N.° 2116-2026, which expanded financial service limits for Basic Operations Establishments (EOB) to improve access in remote areas. This included increasing transaction limits for credit-related operations to 6 UIT and allowing for higher daily cash limits in EOB vaults. The regulator also established temporary measures to assist those affected by the El Niño phenomenon, allowing financial institutions to modify contract conditions and payment schedules without negatively impacting debtors' credit ratings.
By September 2026, the SBS adjusted the Deposit Insurance Fund (FSD) coverage. The maximum coverage amount for depositors was increased to S/123,000 per person for the September to November quarter, a S/1,000 increase from the previous period, based on the Wholesale Price Index (IPM).
