SBT Cidades launch lifts ratings in Greater São Paulo
Journalist Rodrigo Bocardi returned to open‑air TV on 3 August 2026 to lead the new SBT Cidades newscast, produced with his digital hub O Boca TV. The programme recorded an average Ibope rating of 3.3 points and a peak of 3.9 in the Greater São Paulo market, securing third place and an 11 % audience increase over the previous week. It outperformed rival Band News throughout its broadcast, gaining a 14 % lead in the national segment and a 22 % advantage in the local hour.
At the same time, a broader analysis of news‑channel viewership in July showed a sharp contraction in audience numbers across the five major networks in the same market. The average rating fell to 0.2737 points, equivalent to about 54.5 thousand viewers per minute. Record News led with 0.0999 points (just under 20 k viewers per minute), followed by GloboNews, Jovem Pan, CNN Brazil and BandNews TV. The data highlights the competitive pressure on Brazilian broadcasters, with SBT’s new format offering a rare ratings boost amid an overall audience decline.
