SCAN Tarragona hosts 13th International Photography Festival

The 13th edition of the SCAN International Photography Festival in Tarragona will take place from October 16 to November 29. The programming focuses on the transformations of the contemporary world and the metamorphosis of photography itself, drawing conceptual inspiration from Franz Kafka’s ‘The Metamorphosis’ and Zygmunt Bauman’s theories on liquid modernity.

The festival will utilize the Moll de la Costa as a central hub for emerging international photography, featuring exhibitions, artistic projects, workshops, and mediation activities. A key highlight is the ‘Talent Latent’ exhibition, curated by Jesús Vilamajó, which showcases projects from ten artists selected from over 1,013 submissions across fifty countries. These works explore themes such as institutional control, social pressure, and intimate family transformations.

Other notable components include the ‘Alienations’ exhibition, curated by Xavier de Luca and Houari Bouchenak, which addresses structures of oppression. The festival also maintains a presence in Reus and includes the ‘Photobooks SCAN’ initiative at the Museu d’Art Modern de la Diputació de Tarragona (MAMT).
