Scandlines ferry M/F Schleswig-Holstein to undergo hybrid conversion

The ferry M/F Schleswig-Holstein will be out of service for the remainder of the year to undergo a major conversion. Operated by Scandlines, the vessel is scheduled to depart from Rødby for a shipyard in Klaipeda, Lithuania, following its final passenger trip this weekend.

The renovation project is expected to cost over 200 million DKK. The upgrades will convert the ferry into a plugin-hybrid vessel, allowing it to draw the majority of its energy from shore-based electricity while in port. Additionally, the ship's restaurant and toilet facilities will receive a thorough renovation. The M/F Schleswig-Holstein is expected to return to the Rødby-Puttgarden route in late 2026.

During the shipyard period, the route between Rødby and Puttgarden will continue to be serviced by the three remaining ferries in the Scandlines fleet.
