Scarborough Busway opens as DSBRT construction begins
The Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) and the City of Toronto are launching the Scarborough Busway on Wednesday, September 30. The project, which opens six months ahead of schedule, utilizes approximately four kilometres of the former Line 3 Scarborough right-of-way to provide faster, more reliable express service. The busway features dedicated lanes to bypass traffic and serves several routes, including the 38 Highland Creek and 903 Kennedy Station Scarborough express.
Simultaneously, the Regional Municipality of Durham has commenced construction on the third segment of the Durham-Scarborough Bus Rapid Transit (DSBRT) project. Located in Pickering along Kingston Road, the work is being undertaken by Limen Construction Ltd. and is expected to last until August 31, 2028.
This construction includes pavement reconstruction, dedicated median bus lanes, new transit platforms, water and wastewater system installations, and accessibility improvements. Drivers should expect lane shifts and restrictions on Kingston Road, including periods where the road will be reduced to a single eastbound lane to accommodate wastewater work.
