Scarborough transit infrastructure development

Overview

The Scarborough Busway has officially opened in Toronto, providing a dedicated four-kilometre transit corridor for nine TTC bus routes. Operating between Kennedy and Ellesmere stations, the busway serves as an interim solution following the decommissioning of the Scarborough Rapid Transit (Line 3) after a train derailment occurred on July 24, 2023. The busway is expected to remain in place until the Scarborough subway extension is completed, which is currently projected for 2030.

In conjunction with the busway opening, construction has commenced on the third segment of the Durham-Scarborough Bus Rapid Transit (DSBRT) project in Pickering. This work along Kingston Road includes pavement reconstruction, dedicated median bus lanes, and new transit platforms, with an expected completion date of August 31, 2028.
