Scavi Hue workers hospitalized in suspected mass food poisoning

At least 192 workers and employees at the Scavi Hue textile company in Phong Dien, Hue, have been hospitalized following a suspected mass food poisoning incident. Patients reported symptoms including fever, abdominal pain, vomiting, and diarrhea, with initial diagnoses pointing to acute gastroenteritis.

As of the morning of September 13, 2026, 172 patients were receiving treatment at Hue Central Hospital Facility 2, while 20 individuals were being treated at the Phong Dien Medical Center. While 11 patients have been discharged, the remaining 181 are in stable condition and under medical observation.

The Hue Department of Health has suspended the catering services provided by Hue Thanh Co., Ltd., which operated the collective kitchen at Scavi Hue, pending a full investigation. The Ministry of Health has also requested an urgent investigation to trace the source of the suspected contaminated food and identify the responsible parties.

Scavi Hue management stated they are cooperating with authorities and have committed to covering all medical expenses and necessary costs for the affected employees during their treatment and recovery.
