Scavi Hue textile worker food poisoning

On September 12, 2026, at least 192 workers at the Scavi Hue textile company in Phong Dien, Hue, were hospitalized following a suspected mass food poisoning incident. Patients experienced symptoms such as fever, abdominal pain, vomiting, and diarrhea, with initial diagnoses suggesting acute gastroenteritis.

As of September 13, 172 patients were being treated at Hue Central Hospital Facility 2 and 20 at the Phong Dien Medical Center. While 11 individuals were discharged, 181 remained under medical observation in stable condition. The Hue Department of Health suspended catering services provided by Hue Thanh Co., Ltd., which operated the company’s collective kitchen, pending an investigation. The Ministry of Health also requested an urgent probe to identify the source of contamination.

By September 22, the Hue Department of Health determined that the poisoning of 222 workers at the Scavi Hue company canteen was caused by Escherichia coli (E. coli) and Bacillus cereus. These bacteria were detected in several dishes provided by Hue Thanh Co., Ltd., including shredded chicken, beef salad, and various vegetarian noodle dishes. All affected workers have since completed their treatment and been discharged from medical facilities.
