Schillaci proposes salary increases and new hires for Italian healthcare staff

Italian Health Minister Orazio Schillaci has announced plans to prioritize new hires, higher salaries, and more uniform treatment regarding overtime and allowances for healthcare professionals in the upcoming budget law. The Minister emphasized the importance of utilizing available healthcare funds effectively to revitalize the National Health Service (SSN).

Various healthcare organizations have responded to these proposals. Anaao Assomed expressed support for the economic valuation of medical and healthcare management, noting that structural measures are essential to prevent public recruitment processes from failing due to low professional attractiveness. The Federation of National Orders of Nursing, Technicians, and Prevention Professions (FNO TSRM e PSTRP) also welcomed the move toward equalizing treatment across different healthcare professions to address unsustainable economic disparities.

UGL Salute noted that while the intention to allocate resources is positive, the government must ensure these funds translate into stable hiring and address the security of workers facing daily aggression in hospitals. The organization also called for the transition of community health centers from mere projects to operational structures.
