Germany hits solar energy record and completes world's tallest wind turbine

Germany has reached significant milestones in renewable energy production. As of late September 2026, solar power generation has hit 90.2 terawatt-hours, surpassing the total production of the entire previous year. The German Solar Industry Association (BSW-Solar) attributed this record to an increase in sunny hours and the continuous expansion of photovoltaic systems on residential, commercial, and open spaces. However, the association warned that upcoming legislative changes, including the 2027 EEG amendment and the 'Netzpaket', could create investment hurdles for citizens and businesses.

In a separate technological achievement, the world's tallest wind turbine has reached its final height of 365 meters in Schipkau, Brandenburg. Built by the Gicon Group, the structure features a hub height of 300 meters and is designed to capture stronger, more consistent winds found at higher altitudes. The turbine is expected to be officially commissioned in November and aims to provide electricity to approximately 7,500 households.
