Schipkau wind turbine reaches 365 meters, setting world record

A new wind turbine in Schipkau, Brandenburg, has reached a final height of 365 meters, making it the tallest wind energy installation in the world. Developed by the Dresden-based GICON Group on behalf of the Federal Agency for Leap Innovations (SPRIND), the structure features a hub height of 300 meters. It stands as the second-tallest structure in Germany, surpassed only by the Berlin TV Tower, which measures 368 meters.

The turbine utilizes a specialized telescoping steel lattice tower design to access stronger and more consistent winds at higher altitudes. This approach aims to provide more stable energy supplies and better land use efficiency. Once fully operational, the facility is expected to supply electricity to approximately 7,500 households, with an estimated annual yield between 18 and 33 million kilowatt-hours.

Construction reached its target height following delays caused by strong wind gusts and technical adjustments to the inner tower. Official commissioning is scheduled for November 2026. The project represents a significant transition for the Lausitz region, moving from its history of coal mining toward renewable energy production.
