Schleswig-Holstein administration employees respond to open-source transition

A study conducted by open-source companies Univention, Nextcloud, Heinlein, and Open-Xchange reveals that 49 percent of employees in the Schleswig-Holstein state administration view the transition to open-source solutions positively. The survey, which included 2,700 participants, follows the full migration of the state's mail system to open-source software in early October 2025.

While 41 percent of respondents viewed the change negatively, the level of acceptance is reportedly higher than in previous stages of the digital transformation. Additionally, 74 percent of employees reported having already adapted to the new working environment. The study highlights that peer support played a significant role in the transition, with 74 percent of respondents noting they had discussions with colleagues regarding the change.
