Global educational authorities set 2026-2027 school year schedules

Educational authorities in Mexico, Spain, and France are finalizing schedules and regulations for the 2026-2027 academic year.

In Mexico, the Secretaría de Educación Pública (SEP) has set the general start date for August 31, 2026, with the cycle concluding on July 9, 2027. However, in Oaxaca, classes will begin earlier on August 24 due to local union agreements. Additionally, the SEP has issued strict prohibitions against “novatadas” (hazing) in teacher training institutions to ensure student safety and human rights.

In Spain, the Junta de Castilla y León has approved a staggered start for the 2026-2027 school year, with various levels beginning between September 9 and October 5, 2026. The general activity period runs through June 30, 2027.

In France, the Ministry of National Education has scheduled the return to school for September 1, 2026, for most students, with teachers returning on August 31. The calendar includes specific holiday zones for winter and spring breaks.
