Global 2026-2027 academic year scheduling

Overview

Educational authorities in various countries have released schedules and regulations for the 2026-2027 academic year. In Mexico, Spain, and France, officials have finalized start dates and holiday structures. Mexico’s Secretaría de Educación Pública set a general start date of August 31, 2026, while also issuing prohibitions against “novatadas” (hazing) in teacher training institutions. Spain’s Junta de Castilla y León approved a staggered start between September 9 and October 5, 2026. France has established its academic calendar with a universal start date of September 1, 2026, though Corsica is scheduled to begin on September 3, 2026. The official calendar confirms that the All Saints (Toussaint) holidays, running from October 17 to November 2, 2026, and the Christmas holidays, from December 19, 2026, to January 4, 2027, are uniform across metropolitan France. Winter breaks are staggered across three zones to manage travel: Zone C from February 6 to February 22, 2027; Zone A from February 13 to March 1, 2027; and Zone B from February 20 to March 8, 2027. In Morocco, the Ministry of National Education, Preschool and Sports has outlined specific holiday dates. The national system includes five intermediate holiday periods, beginning with a break from October 18 to October 25, 2026. Additionally, October 31, 2026, is designated as a holiday for Unity Day, which is distinct from the intermediate break. Other national intermediate breaks are scheduled for December 6–13, 2026; January 24–31, 2027; March 21–28, 2027; and May 9–16, 2027. International networks in Morocco follow distinct calendars. French schools have an autumn break from October 17 to November 2, 2026, and year-end holidays from December 19, 2026, to January 4, 2027. The American School of Marrakech has a break scheduled for October 19–23, 2026, with Thanksgiving holidays on November 26–27.
