School Games begin in Paraíba and Pernambuco, Brazil

The state stage of the Jogos Escolares e Paraescolares for athletes aged 15 to 17 started on Tuesday, August 4, in João Pessoa, Paraíba. Competitions include athletics, judo, paralympic bocce, badminton, wrestling, beach volleyball, futsal, basketball and handball, with the best qualifiers earning spots for the Youth Games in Foz do Iguaçu in October. The event is organized by the State Secretariat of Youth, Sports and Leisure (Sejel).

Meanwhile, the municipal Jogos Escolares in Brejo da Madre de Deus, Pernambuco, will be held from August 10 to 15. Students aged 7 to 14 will compete in futsal, volleyball, badminton and chess across the town and its districts of Fazenda Nova and São Domingos, with medals awarded to the top two finishers in each category.
