Sciacca and Piacenza launch new disability‑access initiatives in Italy

The municipality of Sciacca (Sicily) has bought five amphibious “sedie job” chairs and installed accessible walkways on the Foggia, Sovareto and Tonnara beaches, allowing free use for people with mobility impairments. The chairs will be placed at five beach sites and can be requested without charge. The mayor, Fabio Termine, and the disability assessor, Agnese Sinagra, said, “Questo rende le spiagge di Sciacca altamente accessibili, fruibili e soprattutto inclusive.”

In Piacenza (Emilia‑Romagna), the city council introduced an online portal for disabled residents to apply for free or reduced‑price entry to municipal pools and to request use of sports facilities. The system, operating 24 hours a day, extends the validity of pool‑access permits to 31 August and aims to simplify paperwork for clubs and volunteers. Assessore Mario Dadati noted, “Si tratta di un diritto già da tempo previsto e regolamentato dall’Amministrazione, ma con questa nuova modalità digitale diventa molto più facile presentare la domanda.”
