Sciacca municipality uses 5×1000 funds for beach accessibility projects

The town of Sciacca in Sicily is directing taxpayers' 5×1000 allocations to improve beach access for people with disabilities. New walkways have been installed on local beaches and five amphibious wheelchairs (Job chairs) have been purchased to enable motor‑impaired visitors to enjoy the sea. The funding comes from the 5×1000 portion of the IRPEF tax that residents can assign to their municipality, a mechanism regulated by Legislative Decree No. 111/2017 and further guidelines issued in July 2020. The municipality reports that the resources are earmarked exclusively for social‑policy actions, such as assistance for the elderly, support for families in difficulty, child services, poverty reduction and disability inclusion, and must be accounted for with strict transparency.

The initiative is presented as a way for the community to benefit directly from taxpayers' choices without increasing the overall tax burden, illustrating how local administrations can finance inclusion projects through the 5×1000 scheme.
