Sciacca secures €30,000 regional grant for Mare Nostrum fish promotion

The Sicilian regional administration approved a €1 million grant programme to encourage the consumption of locally caught, farmed and processed seafood. The final list includes 47 municipal projects, and the region added an additional €360,000 so that all projects can be funded, bringing total support to €1.36 million.

In the town of Sciacca, the municipality received a €30,000 allocation for the second edition of the “Mare Nostrum” initiative, aimed at promoting Sicilian fish, maritime heritage and local fishing economies. Mayor Fabio Termine and Fisheries Assessor Francesco Dimino emphasized the project's role in boosting the local economy and highlighted that the grant was granted after completing all required procedures.

The programme will fund activities such as fairs, seminars, cooking shows, tasting sessions and educational events to raise public awareness of sustainable seafood consumption across the island.
