Scicli Mayor Calls for Enforcement of Beach Animal Ban

Mayor Mario Marino of Scicli appealed to visitors after a group of horseback riders left animal waste on the Micenci beach in Donnalucata. He cited a municipal ordinance from 2012, originally based on a 2010 regulation, that prohibits bringing animals onto beaches due to high summer attendance by families and children. The mayor announced that the city will designate five pet‑free zones of 400 m² each on the beaches of Playa Grande, Pezza Filippa‑Spinasanta, Bruca, Arizza and Sampieri, pending regional approval. Marino emphasized that the rule, in force for 14 years, aims to keep the shoreline clean while respecting animal lovers.
