Scientific studies explore grapes and semaglutide for longevity

Recent scientific studies have identified potential dietary and pharmacological methods to mitigate the effects of aging and high-fat diets.

Research conducted at Western New England University suggests that grapes may offer protective benefits against high-fat diets. In studies involving mice, the addition of standardized grape powder helped alleviate signs of fatty liver disease and increased the activity of genes related to cellular protection against oxidative stress, such as the Gstp1 gene. The researchers noted that grape consumption also appeared to extend the lifespan of mice on high-fat diets.

Separately, researchers at the University of California, Berkeley, found that semaglutide, a GLP-1 analogue used for obesity and type 2 diabetes, may slow physiological aging. In studies on older mice, the medication improved muscle and cognitive functions and reduced inflammation. Mice receiving semaglutide throughout their lives saw a median lifespan increase of nearly 100 days. The study suggests these benefits may occur independently of calorie restriction, though human clinical trials are required to confirm these findings.
