Scottland FC nears CAF Champions League breakthrough
Scottland FC secured a 2-0 victory over Angolan side Petro de Luanda in the first leg of the CAF Champions League second preliminary round. The win, achieved at the National Sports Stadium, places the Harare-based club in a strong position to reach the group stages for the first time.
Experienced players Khama Billiat and Knowledge Musona were instrumental in the win. Billiat scored the opening goal in the second half before assisting Musona to double the lead. Scottland FC coach Norman Mapeza praised the duo, describing their experience and contribution to the club as ‘priceless’.
The match featured an early setback for Petro de Luanda, as goalkeeper Hugo Marques received a straight red card within the opening minute for a foul outside the penalty area. Despite playing with ten men, the Angolan side maintained a compact defensive formation, forcing Scottland FC to work for the result. The return leg will take place in Luanda.
