SDR Portugal expands Volta recycling kiosks for hospitality sector

SDR Portugal is expanding its Volta deposit and refund system by introducing 12 new kiosks designed to facilitate large-scale packaging recycling for the hospitality sector, including hotels, cafes, and restaurants.

Six kiosks are already operational in Albufeira, Barcelos, Cascais, Funchal, Ponta Delgada, and Vila Nova de Famalicão. An additional six locations—Almada, Aveiro, Mafra, Oeiras, Portimão, and Vila do Conde—are currently in the implementation phase following agreements with local municipalities.

Unlike standard automated points in supermarkets that process items individually, these specialized kiosks can collect approximately 120 beverage containers per minute. This high-capacity solution aims to meet the specific needs of commercial operators. SDR Portugal has set a long-term goal of deploying 50 Volta kiosks across 38 municipalities nationwide.
