SDSM demands investigation into 5.5 million euro celebration spending

The Social Democratic Union of Macedonia (SDSM) is demanding a full investigation into the spending of approximately 5.5 million euros used to organize celebrations for the 35th anniversary of independence. Party officials, including Simona Cvetanoski and Maja Borozan, have called for the government, led by Hristijan Mickoski, to release all contracts, invoices, and bank payment records to ensure transparency.

The allegations suggest that the funds consist of roughly 5 million euros from the State Lottery's undistributed profits and an additional 40 million denars from private companies. SDSM has raised concerns regarding the procurement process for the David Guetta performance, noting that a public call closed on May 8, yet the performance was announced just three days later on May 12. The party is questioning whether the deal was finalized before the public tender concluded.

Furthermore, the opposition is seeking clarity on the selection of companies involved, the specific costs associated with the international production team, and the profits earned by organizers such as Avalon. They have also requested information regarding the tax obligations and the financial status of the entities engaged in the event.
