Sea turtle activity reported in Pantelleria and Latina

In Italy, significant marine wildlife activity has been reported involving Caretta caretta sea turtles. In Pantelleria, the Coast Guard is coordinating a specialized operation to rescue an adult turtle spotted near the Scauri coast. Due to reports of aggressive behavior, experts from the Isole Egadi and Palermo Marine Turtle Recovery Centers suggest the animal may be in distress and requires medical attention. The turtle will be transferred to the Isole Egadi Marine Protected Area's recovery center for analysis and treatment.

Meanwhile, in Latina, the Pontine coast has seen the hatching of the first 20 Caretta caretta hatchlings. This marks the fourth consecutive year that turtles have chosen the area north of Capoportiere for nesting. Authorities are monitoring the remaining eggs and preparing to release the hatchlings into the sea at sunset to ensure their safe passage from the sand to their natural habitat.
