Search continues for missing pilot in Ontario's Kawartha Lakes

A search operation is underway in Ontario’s Kawartha Lakes region for 73-year-old pilot David Douglas, who remains missing after his home-built aircraft was located.

Douglas departed from Oshawa Executive Airport at approximately 8:30 a.m. on Friday, August 14, 2026, and failed to return as expected. The aircraft, described as a light blue and yellow amateur-built plane with the letters ‘FOFZ’ on the tail, has been found on Wolf Lake in Queen Elizabeth II Provincial Park.

The Trenton Joint Rescue Coordination Centre confirmed the discovery of the plane, and the Ontario Provincial Police have taken over the investigation as a missing person’s case. Search units continue to support efforts to locate Douglas, an experienced leisure flyer. Authorities previously requested that anyone with camera footage or information regarding unusual aircraft sounds in the area contact 911.
