Sunda Strait search expands for missing journalists near Mount Anak Krakatau
Search operations for five journalists and three crew members missing in the Sunda Strait have entered their fourth day. The group lost contact while reporting on the activity of Mount Anak Krakatau.
Basarnas has expanded the search area to approximately 3,243.7 square nautical miles, divided into four main sectors and one special sector. The operation involves 13 vessels, including KRI Kerambit, KRI Leuser, and several RIBs, covering areas near Lampung, Sebesi Island, and Pulau Sertung.
Banten Governor Andra Soni has personally monitored the search from a naval vessel. Meanwhile, Banten Police Chief Hengki confirmed that an orange life jacket and a white buoy found in the Cikoneng waters do not belong to the missing group, providing no new leads for the search.
Mount Anak Krakatau remains at Level III (Siaga) activity status. While continuous eruptions have ceased, episodic Strombolian eruptions are still occurring, and volcanic activity continues to be monitored by the Geological Agency.
