Czech storms cause outages, tree damage and missing paddleboarders on Lake Most
Severe thunderstorms swept across the Czech Republic on 5‑6 August, bringing heavy rain, strong winds and hail. In the Vysočina, Olomoucký, Pardubický and Jihomoravský regions fallen trees damaged roofs, blocked roads and knocked out electricity for roughly 900 households. Fire‑brigade units responded to more than 60 incidents, including tree removal, water‑filled basements and railway disruptions.
In the Ústecký region the same storm hit Lake Most. A six‑person paddle‑board group was stranded; four members were rescued, while two young men went missing. Police, divers and rescue drones launched a search. One 28‑year‑old body was recovered on 6 August; the second man remains missing. Authorities have urged the public to follow weather warnings and avoid water activities during storms. The storm also prompted alerts in neighbouring Slovakia.
