Search operations underway for missing Selman Alkan in Istanbul

Search and rescue teams are conducting operations to locate Selman Alkan, who has been missing for nine days in the Sultangazi district of Istanbul. Alkan left his home last Monday, leaving behind his phone, wallet, identification, house keys, and a sum of money.

A note left at his residence stated, “Take the belongings and empty the house. I will never return to this house.” Security camera footage shows Alkan entering a forested area near the Gazi Social Facility and moving toward the water's edge.

Emergency response teams, including AFAD, the Istanbul Fire Department's underwater search and rescue unit, and police, are currently searching the Alibey Dam and surrounding forested areas. While divers search underwater, AFAD teams are scanning the woods. K9 units were unable to maintain a scent trail after a certain point, and search efforts have been partially impacted by recent flooding in the region.
