Search suspended for missing Australian hiker in Nova Scotia

Denise Ann Williams, a 62‑year‑old woman from Victoria, Australia, was last heard from on 15 April after saying she was traveling to the fishing village of Chéticamp on Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia. Her rental Nissan Sentra was later found near the Parks Canada Visitor Centre at the Acadian Trail head in Cape Breton Highlands National Park.

A multi‑agency operation involving the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, air services, police dogs, Parks Canada staff and emergency responders began on 28 April and continued for six days. The search covered the 8.4‑kilometre Acadian Trail, known for moderate‑to‑difficult terrain and active wildlife. The operation was ended on 3 May with officials stating no further search activity is planned.

Authorities have asked anyone with information about Williams, who was described as 5′4″, wearing a dark winter jacket, a powder‑blue "Antarctica" toque, an orange‑blue scarf and glasses, to contact local police.
