Seasonal increase in house spiders and stink bugs noted

As autumn approaches, residents are noticing an increase in house spiders and stink bugs within their homes.

Regarding spiders, experts from the Natural History Museum note that the perceived increase is due to mating season. Male spiders of the Tegenaria and Eratigena genera leave their webs to find females, making them more visible. They often enter homes through open windows, doors, chimneys, or gaps. While they can bite if handled, the effect of their venom is considered negligible. To prevent them, experts suggest closing windows and sealing gaps.

Simultaneously, marble stink bugs are appearing on facades and windows as temperatures drop. While harmless indoors, they can damage gardens and orchards. To manage them, the Agricultural and Forestry Institute of Novo mesto suggests creating DIY traps using a container with a 2% soapy water solution to reduce surface tension, a dark base or black film, and aggregation pheromone lures.
