Seasonal transitions arrive in Mexico and Chile

In Mexico, the astronomical autumn is set to begin on September 22, 2026, at 18:06 central time. The equinox, which occurs when the Sun is positioned over the celestial equator, will result in nearly equal day and night durations globally. Following this event, days in the Northern Hemisphere will gradually shorten as nights lengthen toward the winter solstice. This seasonal transition is expected to bring cooler weather and increased cold fronts, particularly in northern and central regions during October and November.

In Chile, the transition to daylight saving time begins on September 5, with clocks advancing by 60 minutes in continental Chile, excluding the Magallanes and Aysén regions. Medical specialists warn that this shift can disrupt the body's biological clock, potentially causing fatigue, irritability, sleep disturbances, and difficulty concentrating. The change results in less morning light and more afternoon light, which may affect sleep-wake cycles for several days as the body adapts.
