Chile daylight saving time implementation

Overview

Chile is scheduled to transition to summer time on the night of Saturday, September 5, 2026. Clocks in most of the country, including Continental Chile and Western Insular Chile, will advance by 60 minutes from 23:59 to 01:00 on Sunday, September 6, bringing much of the territory to the UTC-3 time zone.

In Rapa Nui and Isla Salas y Gómez, the adjustment will occur between 22:00 and 23:00 on September 5. The Aysén, Magallanes, and Chilean Antarctic regions will not participate in the change, as they maintain a permanent UTC-3 time zone.

Medical experts have noted that the transition may cause temporary disruptions to sleep patterns and circadian rhythms, potentially resulting in fatigue, drowsiness, and difficulty concentrating. Dr. Pablo González, a neurologist at the Clínica Universidad de los Andes Sleep Medicine Program, stated that the main challenge is the “transient desynchronization between the biological clock and social time.”

Health professionals suggest that children, older adults, and those with existing sleep difficulties may be particularly sensitive to the shift. To assist with adaptation, experts recommend gradually adjusting bedtimes and wake times by 15 to 20 minutes in the days preceding the change.
