Seat and Cupra drive Spain's auto industry forward with new electric model

Spanish carmaker Seat, founded in 1950 and part of the Volkswagen Group since 1986, and its performance brand Cupra have begun production of the Cupra Raval, the first electric vehicle manufactured in Spain, at the Martorell plant. The launch marks a major step in the company's electrification strategy, supported by more than €10 bn of total investment in Spain, including €3 bn dedicated to the Martorell site's transformation.

Seat and Cupra employ around 12 000 workers at Martorell and generate about 100 000 indirect jobs. The plant produces roughly 500 000 vehicles a year, representing about 1 % of Spain's automotive sector, which accounts for nearly 10 % of the national GDP. The new electric model highlights the brands' role in the Mediterranean's industrial landscape and underscores a broader push toward sustainable mobility in the region.
