Volkswagen ID Cross launch and pricing gap
Entities: ID. Cross · Skoda Epiq · Volkswagen AG · Cupra Raval · ID. Polo
Overview
Volkswagen opened pre‑sales for the ID Polo on 21 July 2026 and simultaneously launched orders for the compact ID Cross SUV built on the MEB+ platform. The initial online configurator displayed only the higher‑priced Life and Style trims, priced around €36,500–€39,000 after discounts, creating an €8,000+ gap from the advertised entry price of roughly €28,000. German state subsidies of up to €6,000 and dealer discounts can lower the out‑of‑pocket cost to just under €30,000, but the lower‑priced Trend version with the smaller 37 kWh battery is not expected until mid‑October 2026.
On 26 July 2026 Volkswagen began pre‑orders across Europe, listing the Trend trim at €27,995 before VAT in Germany and at 691,000 CZK in the Czech Republic. The model is offered in three trims—Trend, Life and Style—with 85–155 kW power outputs and either a 37 kWh LFP or 52 kWh NMC battery, delivering WLTP ranges of 316–427 km. Fast charging reaches 90–105 kW and V2L provides up to 3.6 kW for external devices. An R‑Line sport version is slated for later in the year. The pricing discrepancy has drawn criticism, as the promised entry price is only available through subsidies and the cheapest battery option remains delayed.
