SEC weighs reprimand for LSU coach Lane Kiffin over Ole Miss comments

The SEC is set to discuss a possible public reprimand, fine or other sanction for LSU head coach Lane Kiffan following remarks he made in a Vanity Fair interview about recruiting challenges at his former school, Ole Miss. In the profile, Kiffan cited comments allegedly offered by recruits and parents, saying, “Hey, coach, we really like you. But my grandparents aren’t letting me move to Oxford, Mississippi,” and noted that diversity concerns were raised by parents in Baton Rouge. Kiffan later apologized, stating the comments were not his personal opinion, and told USA Today, “People don’t read the actual words I used in the article.” The conference’s spring meetings in Florida this week will consider whether to issue a formal reprimand or impose a fine. Kiffan will face Ole Miss on Sept. 19 when LSU visits Oxford, a matchup expected to draw significant viewership.
