Sechura aquaculture training boosts scallop production and entrepreneurship

Aquaculture training initiatives are underway in Sechura, Piura, to strengthen the local scallop production sector. More than 60 aquaculture workers and producers recently participated in training focused on good aquaculture practices for scallop cultivation from hatcheries. This program, supported by CITE Pesquero Piura and FOSPIBAY, aims to improve technical knowledge and productive activities in the region.

Additionally, FOSPIBAY is promoting female entrepreneurship through its ‘Abanico de Oportunidades’ project. This initiative targets 300 women in Sechura and Parachique, providing free training in the construction and maintenance of scallop cultivation systems, such as lanterns and floating systems. These courses, which include certification from the Universidad Nacional de Piura, are designed to foster self-employment and economic opportunities in a sector that accounts for approximately 80% of Peru's scallop production.
