Algeria arrests 61 Moroccan nationals for alleged sabotage plot

Algerian national security services have dismantled an international criminal network composed of 61 Moroccan nationals in the Oran region. According to the Direction générale de la Sûreté nationale (DGSN), the group was allegedly planning acts of sabotage intended to undermine public order and national security.

Investigations revealed that the suspects entered Algeria via Tunis, subsequently infiltrating the country through the rugged mountainous and forested terrain of the El Kala region in the El Tarf province. From there, they traveled overland to Oran to prepare for their planned activities. The group included at least one former member of the Moroccan army.

During the operation, authorities seized Moroccan passports and various amounts of Moroccan dirhams and euros. The suspects have been presented to the public prosecutor at the specialized criminal pole in Oran. This incident occurs amid long-standing diplomatic tensions between Algeria and Morocco, which have included severed diplomatic ties and closed land borders.
