Security forces shoot wanted suspect GW in Tembagapura

Security forces from the Operasi Damai Cartenz 2026 and Satgas Amole 2026 task forces engaged a wanted individual, identified by the initials GW, in the Tembagapura District of Mimika, Central Papua, on Friday, August 7, 2026.

Kombes Yusuf Sutejo, head of the Damai Cartenz Task Force Public Relations, stated that the shooting occurred as GW attempted to flee. The operation was a response to several criminal acts, including a 2017 attack on a vehicle at Mile 69 that injured a victim, and a 2020 shooting at the PT Freeport Indonesia office building in Kuala Kencana. The latter incident resulted in the death of a New Zealand citizen, Graeme Thomas Wall, and injured two other employees.

Following the engagement, GW sustained injuries. Reports indicate that members of his group provided assistance and moved him into a forested area. Security personnel continue to monitor the vicinity and are conducting ongoing searches in the forest to locate him.
