Regional authorities implement public safety and infrastructure improvements

Various regional authorities across Latin America are implementing measures to improve public safety, infrastructure, and community services.

In Colombia, the National Police launched an operational offensive in Putumayo, resulting in the seizure of firearms and ammunition and several arrests related to drug trafficking. In Pasto, the local government and Veolia have introduced a new waste collection scheme in the city center using a three-ton vehicle to improve sanitation. Additionally, security forces have increased patrols in Ipiales and Montería to enhance public order and tourism safety.

In Peru, ENOSA and the Municipality of Castilla have upgraded lighting and greenery in Tacalá’s 4 de Abril park, supported by a community-led irrigation campaign. In Ecuador, the Municipality of Guayaquil has renovated recreational spaces and installed new playground equipment in five communities within the Puná parish to benefit local residents.

In Panama, authorities in Calovébora are facing calls for increased state presence to address social issues, illegal alcohol sales, and lack of basic services.
