Security operations intensify in Balochistan amid militant activity
Security forces in Pakistan killed Adil Shah, a key commander for the Fitna al-Khawarij terrorist group, during an intelligence-based operation in the Qila Saifullah district of Balochistan. Shah, also known as Darvesh, had been affiliated with the group since 2020 and was reportedly responsible for managing the organization’s financial affairs since 2024. He was also linked to providing accommodation for non-local militants and was involved in various attacks and kidnappings between 2022 and 2023.
Simultaneously, the Balochistan Liberation Front (BLF) has claimed responsibility for an ongoing offensive known as Operation Almas. The BLF alleges that its fighters killed a Military Intelligence captain and members of the Special Services Group (SSG) during clashes. The group claims to have overran a Frontier Works Organisation camp at Gwadar Zero Point, seized a police station in Muzhani, and attacked a security forces convoy in the Gubd area.
These incidents occur amid a rise in militant activity in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Tensions remain high between Islamabad and Kabul regarding the use of Afghan territory by militant groups to launch attacks into Pakistan.
